Dow Wieman

Senior Research Associate

Dow A. Wieman, Ph.D. is a Senior Research Associate at the Human Services Research Institute. His work has focused on public policy related to behavioral health, especially Medicaid managed care, expansion waivers and the uninsured population. Currently, he is working on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) multi-site Managed Care for Vulnerable Populations Study, in the adults with serious mental illness component of the study for which HSRI is the coordinating center. In this capacity he is responsible for producing the three major reports required by the study. He also participates in a variety of activities within The Evaluation Center@HSRI, a federally funding technical assistance center for evaluation of state mental health programs.



His most recent project was to produce the workbook entitled "Keys to Quality: Conducting a Performance Improvement Project for Behavioral Health In Managed Care Based on the Principles of QISMC," to be published by the SAMHSA Office of Managed Care in August, 2001. He is also the Research Coordinator at the Cambridge Health Alliance Department of Psychiatry (at 20 percent of his time) where is involved in developing and coordinating mental health services research infrastructure and training. Dr. Wieman completed his doctoral degree in social policy analysis at the Heller School, Brandeis University.
